Program Management, Software Development and Quality Assurance for CONNECT – an open source software that promotes IT interoperability in the U.S. healthcare system.
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT is charged with nationwide efforts to implement advanced technologies within the health care sector to promote electronic exchange of health information. ONC has coordinated the effort to develop CONNECT, an open source software solution that supports health information exchange – both locally and at the national level. CONNECT uses the Nationwide Health Information Network standards and governance to make sure that health information exchanges are both scalable and compatible with other exchanges being set up throughout the country.
CONNECT is the backbone for transforming healthcare delivery by improving quality, safety, and efficiency in medical practice. By advancing the adoption of interoperable health IT systems and health information exchanges, the country will better be able to achieve the goal of enabling all citizens to have electronic health records by 2014.
ESAC, Inc. is supporting the mission at multiple levels:
Provide project and program management support for CONNECT PMO office.
Support the development and QA effort.
Support the on-boarding effort for the Nationwide Health Information Network.
Provide standards Subject Matter Experts on an as-needed basis to provide expert consultations to the ONC.
The implementation of the CONNECT software should allow a true nationwide deployment by the end of 2012. ESAC, Inc. supports this project with a highly qualified and focused team spread across multiple types of activities but with the singular vision of enabling the client to attain its goals.
We are quite impressed with not only by the technical skills provided by ESAC's software engineers but also by the depth and breadth of their subject matter experts who have provided guidance on standards and interoperability, quality assurance, and project management issues.
ESAC significantly improved the quality of bioinformatics applications of the NCI CBIIT program using industry best practices to ensure systems were validated both functionally and scientifically for use by the community.
