The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT has awarded ESAC, Inc. a multiyear contract to support the Patient Choice initiative.

The Patient Choice initiative focuses on assisting the health care ecosystem by analyzing and developing technical standards to fulfill the technical capability for implementing and sharing individual consent (basic and granular choice) for sharing of health information in healthcare settings and in a research environment. These proposed harmonized technical standards and new technological knowledge/development would advance previous work on data segmentation and privacy protections by showing how a technical system can honor the patient’s preferences for sharing their information, which is needed in order for patient consent or restrictions to persist from system to system if data received is to be reconciled with existing data.
