ESAC, Inc. to support CMS for electronic submission of Medical Documentation (esMD)
April 15, 2013
ESAC, Inc. has been awarded a contract to support the esMD (electronic submission of Medical Documentation) initiative at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The esMD project willenable the electronic sending of medical document request letters to providers and provide author-level signature solutions needed to enable acceptance of electronic claims attachments.
The primary goals of the program include (a) address the issues encompassed by enabling the electronic exchange of medical documentation between CMS/other Payers and Provider (b)develop solutions to enable signing of content records at document bundle, individual document, and individual contributor levels that can be trusted by CMS or other valid recipients, replacing the currently-used paper or scanned wet signatures and (c) define data sets, templates, and standards to provide guidance with decision support, enabling provider capture of required structured documentation, and securely exchanging documentation for benefit determination based on Health Plan/Payer’s coverage and payment rules.
ESAC significantly improved the quality of bioinformatics applications of the NCI CBIIT program using industry best practices to ensure systems were validated both functionally and scientifically for use by the community.
